New Zealand Local Government Funding Agency (“LGFA”) announced today it has appointed Sarah Matthews as its second ‘Future Director’ under the LGFA Future Directors programme, effective 1 January 2024 for a period of 18 months.
Sarah currently holds the GM Organisation Performance (CFO) position at Taupō District Council. Her previous local government experience includes the Executive Manager Finance and Strategy (CFO) position at Ruapehu District Council and Finance Manager position at Waipā District Council.
The Future Directors programme aims to give young talented people from within the Local Government sector with an interest in corporate governance the opportunity to observe and participate in Boardroom discussions for an 18-month period. The Future Director attends all Board meetings, but they have no voting rights and are not involved in decision making.
LGFA Chair Craig Stobo said, "The LGFA Board is pleased to appoint Sarah as a Future Director. Her background across local government and the finance profession will bring relevant experience to our board meetings – and I hope she will enjoy the opportunity to sit on the board of an innovative organisation that is delivering significant value to our council stakeholders."
Sarah said, “Since its establishment, LGFA has produced incredible outcomes for the Local Government Sector and the communities that we serve. I am extremely excited about being involved in this continued contribution over the next 18 months, supporting the sector through the current dynamic and challenging environment. I am honoured to have been chosen for this position and look forward to embracing the opportunity to broaden my governance experience and learn from the highly esteemed LGFA Board.”
